Home Wireless Network Tips
July 8, 2006

Home Networking SIG Leader Ken Rogers and SQL Server SIG leader Bob Coppedge gave an overview and answered lots of questions about Wireless Home Network setup.

With newer equipment, the actual connecting of PCs in a wireless home network is easy. It's the security concerns that need to be addressed. Ken shared some security procedures that should be done right away. These include

  • Changing the admin password on your router
  • Changing the default SSID
  • Disabling SSID broadcasting
  • Setting up MAC filtering
  • Enabling WEP (better than nothing but…)
  • Enabling WPA (much better)
